The Wednesday, September 16, 2009 edition of the Boston Globe featured a front page article on Kendall Square, Cambridge, entitled “A Square Comes Around – Kendall starting to work as a home.”
Since 2006, more than 1,700 residential units have been built in the Kendall Square area. Kendall Square is in East Cambridge, close to Boston.
Among the new restaurants to recently open are The Friendly Toast, especially popular for breakfast on weekends.
Kendall Square also has a new waterfront walkway adjacent to a new park which is just about ready to open. And Charles River Canoe and Kayak just opened a boat dock off Third Street.
For several years now, Kendall Square has enjoyed its own farmer’s market and outdoor skating rink.
And the Kendall Square Cinema is a long-standing part of the scene. The cinema is known for its commitment to art house and alternative titles. Just this past rainy Saturday my seven-year-old daughter and I walked over to see the new Japanese anime film Ponyo. It was a full house and there were many families with children in attendance.
