You can get an overall sense of the shops and services found in Inman Square on the website for the square at Inman Square.  Inman Square truly is one of the last bastions of owner-run businesses in Cambridge. Favorite Inman Square destinations – to name just a few – include Christina’s Ice Cream, StellaBella Toys, and Cafe 1369 Coffee House.

Inman Square is among the most vibrant neighborhoods in Cambridge.

The heart of Inman Square is the intersection of Hampshire and Beacon and Cambridge Streets. As with other so-called squares in Cambridge, Inman Square is not a square but rather the name given to a neighborhood surrounding the center point. There are not really any clearly defined Inman Square boundary lines. That being said, Cambridge Street is certainly the main street of the neighborhood, especially between Hampshire and Columbia Streets.

As for real estate, all residential property types – condominiums, single families, and multifamilies – are found in Inman Square.

Current real estate listings in Inman Square include 183 Elm Street, which is listed for $449,000 with Re/Max Leading Edge, Colleen Sleeper listing agent. I had a dental appointment recently at Restorative Dental Group of Cambridge at 181 Concord Avenue. Lo and behold, when I came out of the dental office I discovered that there was an open house going on upstairs in the same building! I decided to check things out.

According to the open house host I chatted with, there are twelve residential units on the second and third floors of this three-story mixed-use building, with the dental group occupying the entire first floor.

Presently, three of the twelve residential units in the building are listed for sale in MLS  with RCG Properties, John Schwagerl & Scott Twadelle listing brokers. The residential addresses are  187-197 Concord Avenue and the units now for sale include the following:
193 Concord Avenue Unit 7 is for sale with a list price of $189,900. It is reported that this second floor rear-facing studio condo has two rooms and 343 square feet of living area.

187 Concord Avenue Unit 4 is for sale with a list price of $229,500. It is reported that this three-room one-bedroom, one-bath unit features 430 square feet of living area. The unit has a corner location with a bay window in the living room. To feature a new bath, new kitchen cabinets and appliances.

195 Concord Avenue Unit 12 is for sale with a list price of $229,500. It is reported that this top floor three-room one-bedroom, one-bath unit features 500 square feet of living area.

For sure, a buyer could live in these units in as-is condition as the plain-jane and rather predictable equations they are. However, as I looked out the living room window from the top floor unit onto Concord Avenue at the front facade of Didrik’s, I found myself fantasizing about what these units would be like as renovated residences designed with panache and style. How much fun would it be for these twelve units to be showpieces for twelve designers? And what if – to underline the imagined interesting and compelling contemporary condos found inside – the building itself received a new skin? Wishing it were so! Cambridge deserves a few more modern renovations. That being said, the seller reports that some exterior enhancements are in the works and that condo buyers can renovate units here.
